Measurement of Drying Rates with the Ohaus Moisture Balance
Douglas T. Lee

An Ohaus Moisture Balance has been used to measure the weight change of a polymer solution as the solvent is evaporated by gas phase convection. This apparatus has the potential to be a simple, easy-to-conduct experiment to determine the drying characteristics of various polymer- solvent systems and to evaluate the drying models which have been developed in the Center. Preliminary studies show that the lack of control on the mass transfer coefficient in the gas stream of the Ohaus balance is a significant limitation for the applicability of this technique for conducting drying studies.
