Modeling of the Drying of Multicomponent Polymer Films in a Multi-Zone Dryer
Sacide Alsoy

The formation of polymer films and coatings from the drying of polymer-solvent solutions is a key process in the production of many polymeric materials such as photographic films, synthetic fibers, adhesives, and magnetic media. Modeling of these polymer solution processes is critical for optimal design and operation of the dryers. This modeling involves detailed information concerning the concentration and temperature dependency of the mutual binary diffusion coefficients for the polymer solutions as well as the phase equilibria relationship between the polymer solution and the vapor phase. This report extends previous studies in this area to the case of drying of a polymer solution containing two solvents in a multi-zone dryer.
