A new focus of the Center has been in the area of polymer purification by supercritical extraction. Preliminary studies indicate that a unique mechanism in glassy polymers may lead to a significant enhancement of impurity removal during the depressurization stage of the extraction process. Penn State has applied for a patent in this field.
