Crystal Formation in Polyvinyl Alcohol
Mourad Hamedi, Ralf Manski, John Palamara, and Narayan Ramesh

A model describing the solvent induced crystal formation in polyvinyl alcohol is proposed. The model is based on a free-volume formulation of the polymer chain mobility. Solvent induced crystallization was studied using gravimetric sorption. It is shown that the experimental method is critical for successful experiments. This work is a first approach to the studied phenomenon. Only one fitting parameter is needed which is the crystal-formation "reaction" pre-exponential factor.
