Solubility and Diffusion Studies of Various Solvents in Polyethylene using Capillary Column Inverse Gas Chromatography
Justin L. Becker

Solubility and diffusion data for binary polymer-solvent systems of PE and n-pentane, n-hexane, n-octane, n-decane, 1-octene, and cyclohexane were obtained using capillary column inverse gas chromatography. The expected trends of decreasing solubility and increasing diffusion with increasing temperature were observed. Future work will study the effect of water on these systems. The influence of water on diffusion is of particular interest because of the possibility of an antiplasticization effect.
