Summary
Marc Russell

Quartz-spring gravimetric sorption experiments were recently performed on 1-octene in very-low density polyethylene. It was observed that at high enough solvent concentrations there would be "overshoot" in the unsteady-state mass uptake, where a maximum would be reached followed by a long period of solvent ejection. This phenomenon was caused by solvent-induced crystallization of the polymer sample. It is the first known instance of this occurring in a PE/solvent system.
