The linked Unrestricted Grant Document [PDF: 17 KB] is typical of an unrestricted research grant to the Center. The Partner joins the Center for one of two reasons: access to the restricted data bases, calculation programs, and publications - or - interest in establishing a specific research effort. In the latter case there is agreement between the two parties that the problem is of mutual interest. The Center will pursue the project in collaboration with the Partner. Generally one of our staff interacts directly with a representative from the Partner's Company. The amount of data collected and effort expended must, of course, be consistent with the annual contribution. Many of the Partners elect to establish a major research project with the Center. In this case the research effort is assigned essentially full-time to one of the staff. Once again the research can be done using an Unrestricted Grant Document or under a contract that details the intellectual property ownership, patent rights, etc. In the latter case a research overhead currently set at 50% is added to the cost of the project. The current cost of an unrestricted grant for a full-time graduate student effort is approximately $40,000 and the research contract cost is approximately $60,000. To discuss potential interaction with the Center, please feel free to contact Ron Danner at the email addresses or phone number listed above. |
